"The experience of a visitor to Ward 33"

About: York Hospital / Nephrology

I was privileged to be with a close friend in Ward 33 when the Consultant came to tell my friend that she was dying (she already knew). The Consultant was absolutely brilliant.. a master class in sensitively conveying the fact that treatment was failing, and not likely to improve. In a really empathic manner they made it clear that she could stay in hospital or opt for hospice at home.. which my friend was keen to do.

I am a retired NHS psychologist......I could only watch in admiration the Consultant's clinical skill, and their total focus on what was best for my friend.

Please tell them so !!

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend but am pleased to hear that the consultant was so sensitive in delivering the very sad news to you both.

We are very proud of our staff and we know that they always strive to provide the best service to our patients; it's great to get feedback from our patients and their loved ones reflecting this. I will ensure that your comments are passed on.

Wishing you all the best
