We have a buddy system where patient buddies help settle new patients into ward life and this is really helpful. I think that when a patient is new to going out into the community, another patient who has unescorted could take that patient into the community sometimes rather than staff. As a buddy you could help support that patient from a patient's view, because you have done it before and know what it is like. I would like to do this. I think it should be patients who have level 6 and are unescorted. I could show them around. This would help the patients and also help me. I think this would contribute to recovery and comfort the patient who was going into out as it would be a new thing. A patient asked me to take her shopping which gave me the idea and I would love to do it. This sort of thing would help make patients happier as it's sometimes hard to build a rapport with staff and to know that a patient has been through the same thing would make it easier.
"How about extending the Patient Buddy System?"
