"Choices and Information"
About: Pembury Hospital / Gynaecology Pembury Hospital Gynaecology

I recently had what I would describe as a very invasive prolapse operation at Pembury Hospital, I cannot fault the nurses who work their socks off for the patients in their care. However, when I went to my own GP I was asked which hospital I wanted to go to and chose Maidstone, I wasn't told until pre admission that I was going to Pembury (Looking back I am glad I did end up at Pembury) The point is that patients are meant to have choices and information.
Also I was told that there was no guarantee which procedure I would be having, this makes it very anxious for patients when they do not even know before they go down to surgery which procedure will be done.
I know funds are tight but I would have thought that there are explorations that consultants can do before a procedure so that they have the information prior to operating. Also, if I hadn't asked before hand I wouldn't even have seen the consultant prior to my admission.
I think that the Consultants and the administrative staff forget that we are real people with real lives and feelings and we are not treated as though we matter. It all adds up to a very anxious time.
Thank Goodness for the nurses that's all I can say, they have to make up for all the inefficiencies elsewhere in the NHS and they often do this against all the odds, even when they are short staffed. Pembury Nurses deserve a medal each. Thank you for caring so much.
