I attended an outpatient clinic with a patient. She felt the need of some support.
The nursing staff were lovely. Caring, considerate and professional.
The consultant's behaviour fell far short of that which might be expected. I was left with the distinct impression that the residents of Barnsley had to take what they were given and be grateful for it.
It was clear that the nursing staff were used to the behaviour of the consultant but what I found depressing was that they had a young doctor in with them who seemingly was being trained.
Had I been the patient I would not have put up with the bullying behaviour but felt constrained by the fact that my friend was still being treated. I was very shocked by what I witnessed and felt by not challenging the consultant I was complicit.
I suspect what I witnessed was not an unusual occurrence. I have waited to post this review as I usually would not take such a step but after due consideration I felt duty bound to express my disappointment for those who have no choice but to attend upon this unit.
"Dreadful experience"
