"The food was poor"

About: University Hospital Wishaw

(as the patient),

The food in the hospital was inedible. One of the days I was taken for an X ray and, when I returned to the ward, I had ordered an omelette for lunch and it was left on thr plate but it was cold. I do not know how patients are expected to recover from illness as the standard of food served is so poor.

Dear elliemc,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback.

I am sorry that you found the food to be inedible. At the Hospital we regularly regularly review the patient experience on food, fluid and nutrition.

Following your posting I have spoke with the catering contract manager and we will review the menus with the view to also adding a hot meal at lunch time as well as the selection of omelette, sandwiches and baked potatoes with the various selection of fillings.

We also plan to conduct a food tasting session on the 8th of March.

I am sorry that when you went to X-ray that you returned to your bedside and your meal had been left and was cold. This is not the standard of care I would expect and a hot meal should have been reordered on your return from radiology.

We will be conducting a patient experience audit and I will personally review these results and infirm the food fluid and nutrition NHS Lanarkshire board meeting of these results.

Thank you once again fir raising these issues.

I hope this finds you making good progress.

Brst wishes

Andy

Dear elliemc,

I thought I would update you on some changes following your posting.

Myself and the Senior Nurses have been out working at mealtimes and carried out meal time observations. We have reviewed these results and in view of these we have made changes to the standard operating procedure for meal times and re circulated this to the wards and departments.

We have gone back to basics in respect to the presentation of the meals given to patients and all have been reminded to ensure there is protected meal times at ward level.

Many thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback and allowing us to make improvements.

Best wishes

Andy
