"Terrible care"

About: University Hospital Of North Durham / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My Father in law was admitted to A and E after suffering a fall. When we arrived the medical teams had allegedly just handed over with the new staff not having a clue about what was happening with my relative/past history or anything.

He was transferred to EMU which was on the whole a complete and utter disgrace. My Father in law was dying, there was no privacy, compassion or support. Staff spoke to you like you were three year old and I felt were constantly implying that my Father in law had not been cared for correctly at home.

When you rang for updates the calls would either ring forever or someone would pick up then you were on hold and forgotten about.

We were constantly being told our father in law was comfortable which was not true.   In fact fellow patients were telling us that he had actually been far from it and was distressed and he alerted staff numerous times as they were all too busy standing talking at the stations.

So all in all a complete and utter disgrace of a place not a good word to say about it. We lost our Father in law in July 2016 and this is the first time I have been able to document this experience. I could not even speak to the staff at the time as know I would have lost my temper which would not have helped anyone.
