I found out I was pregnant on 9th January. I called to make an appontment straight away, and booked my consultation for the following week. I was told I couldn't book the procedure as the diary the Buckhurst Hill hadn't been prepared. I chased and chased and finally got an appontment for 2 and a half weeks time - to then be told on the day of my appontment I couldn't be seen today. I was distraught but called the service line who told me I would be considered for cancellation appointments. That's when i was called the next day for an appontment in 2 days time at Ealing. When I arrived with my mum there was protestors outside, be prepared for this and just don't look or engage in conversation. The staff were all lovely and welcoming. I opted for general anaesthetic but was told couldn't have this done so had to be sedated - in the long run I am happy about this as I recovered after surgery within around 10 minutes. Sitting in the recovery room with loads of other ladies isn't great but you just have to stay patient, and thankful that a service like this is provided to you for free! The recovery nurses were so lovely and caring, which made it a lot easier. The surgeon was very nice too, I felt fine before but once in theatre it is very daunting, but the surgeon and theatre staff were very nice and supportive. If you are scared and going through this it will all be ok in the end. I know it's a horrible experience but I genuinely feel the team made this a lot easier. Thank you Marie Stopes.
