After a silly fall which resulted in a dislocated ankle and broken bones in leg and foot my wife brought me into A&E c 9.30 pm on Wednesday 16th February.
A&E assessed the problem in an acceptable time frame, and thereafter the emergency team worked well to rest the preliminary dislocation. Following x-ray it was confirmed that there were broken bones and that the ankle was still incorrectly located... so a standby orthopaedic doctor was summoned and the ankle was manipulated again into place and replastered and x-rayed.
At 3.00 am on Thursday 17th I was moved to a ward... the orthopaedic ward was full and so I was taken to the Prescott ward. The ward doctors visited c 10.00am, assessed the position and advised an operation which could be effected that afternoon.
I agreed to this and promptly, as had been advised, I was operated on at 2.30.
On the Friday I was moved to the orthopaedic Dixon ward and I was ready to be released on the Friday afternoon.
All the staff were most friendly, courteous and attentive.
I am aware of the pressures the NHS is under and want to express satisfaction with the treatment received, the friendly nurses and porters - all consistently cheerful and welcoming.
I was pleased to find modern equipment [x-ray and monitoring] in place and what appeared an effective IT system enable staff to manage the patient in an effective and timely manner
