"Treated with kindness and respect at end of life"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Medical emergency assessment unit (MEAU) Lincoln County Hospital / Older people's healthcare Lincoln County Hospital / Rehabilitation

(as a relative),

My second cousin was aged 97 and very frail. She was admitted to Lincoln Hospital by ambulance. Upon arrival at the hospital she was seen at once by a Doctor who assessed her and taken straight to resuss. There I was told that she did not have much time left.

I sat with her and after an hour and a half she was moved to a cubicle and there seen by another Doctor. She was subsequently moved to MEAU unit where she was for a day and then moved to Lancaster Ward. My Daughter and I came to see her over the next couple of days and then she died whilst my Daughter was with her.

She was treated with kindness and respect, and genuine concern. She was kept warm and clean and was seen by the Chaplain which was important to her. All of the staff were efficient and gave great confidence to my Daughter and myself.

We hear so many tales of the failings of the NHS but here in Lincoln we are lucky. An idea of how good they are can be seen by walking into the hospital. If you see any staff whether a porter or a consultant, they always ask if you are OK and know where you are going. Well done

On behalf of A&E and MEAU..

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. The teams working in both our A&E department and Medical Emergency assessment Unit always appreciate receiving positive feedback regarding the care they have given to both patients and their families during such difficult circumstances. I will ensure that your kind words are shared with the staff. I would also like to take this opportunity to offer you and the rest of your family our condolences following the sad loss of your second cousin and express my thanks again for your post.

Dear Suffolk Sailor

My condolences at the loss of your second cousin. I remember meeting you when I was called to come to see your relative as the Chaplain. I remember meeting you and you expressed how much you felt you had been looked after even then.

As Chaplains we always hope we respond to the call to a Patient and family with compassion, kindness and most of all in a dignified manner. Your relative's faith was, as you expressed, very important to her and in turn this is important to us as Chaplains that we respond to the need.

You were as equally patient and inviting as a relative, and I received a warm welcome. I am really touched by your kind words and also your praise of the staff along the way.

Thank you so much for writing as it means such a lot to each and every one of us.

Kind Regards and God Bless.

Reverend Pamela Beattie
