We had our third baby at Watford General and I cannot recommend it enough.
The midwives and nurses in the delivery suite were friendly and put us at ease.
It was a planned C-Section so there were lots of nerves but nothing was too much trouble to put these at rest.
The baby needed special care for 24 hours and this was managed extremely well with every effort to connect us with with the baby and allow feeding and contact. Nothing was too much trouble to make this happen.
We had read negative experiences of Katherine Ward (post delivery ward) and were worried about the aftercare but our experience was totally the opposite of negative.
They made extra special effort to continue access to the neonatal unit and nurses would accompany us 1:1 in a wheelchair and make this as comfortable as possible (v difficult the same day as a c section!!) .
We were even offered the side room to make up for the fact we wouldn't have our baby with us and everyone else did - this showed thought and care and really made a huge difference.
The great care on Katherine Ward continued throughout our three day stay and although it is too hot , we found the whole experience positive with everyone resolutely friendly and helpful.
Discharge was quick and painless which is also a first.
Overall this is a great team who talk across departments and make a real effort to make a difference to someone having a difficult experience.
