"birth of daughter"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital

(as the patient),

I asked for assistance on my third day on Summerfield ward. I had two students that looked after me. One of them told me I would get a blood clot because I did not put my stockings on which I told her were too tight. The second explained the risks associated with not wearing the stockings and she measured me for new tights which were bigger and explained why it was important to wear them. This student was lovely and explained the risks with my reduced movement whereas the other student made me feel like a failure as a mother because of my reduced movement. Not the kind of assistance I need as a new mother.

Dear G473

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. You have clearly highlighted the importance and need for good information and effective care provided with compassion. I am sorry that you had a poor experience with the first student however very pleased that the second student met your needs much more effectively.

All students are supported by a midwife and it is vital that the she is confident that the student is giving the correct information. I will share your feedback with the Charge Midwife in Summerfield Ward and with Robert Gordon University so that we can review our support of students and see if there is any new learning that we need to take forward.

Jenny
