"Why am I left to suffer without support?"

About: Ayrshire Central Hospital / General Psychiatry Three Towns Resource Centre / General Psychiatry

(as the patient),

I have bi polar type 2...and BPD....I spent 3 months in hospital ....I have never been inclined to contact my CPN or psychiatrist unless really needed....My CPN and Psych told me not to suffer make sure I get in touch for them to help.

During a change of medication I felt I needed further support so reluctantly contacted CPN.....was told CPN would contact psychiatrist to see about additional medication. ..haven't slept properly since October last year...no return call from anyone over 3 week period ...no support ....no change to medication ....I informed them that I felt aggressive ...angry...agitated...low...and not sleeping...regardless of the fact I'm suffering a bipolar episode there has not been support or effort to help my situation....suicide is a real option when your mind is turmoil ....highest rate of successful suicide comes from BPD. ..so why don't they make a bigger effort to change things? Why am I left to suffer without support. ...I do respect all staff who I believe try their best ....but I'm definitely not feeling supported.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear No support,

I am really sorry you have not felt supported at the times you most needed it. It must be very hard to cope while feeling like this.

While reading your story, I few things come to mind. Firstly, can we get that support you need and secondly, we can then look into your individual case. Doing this will help us to see what caused you to be in the position to feel like this and lets us see what could or should be different to avoid it happening again.

I appreciate you may find it difficult to contact me but if you can, we will look into how we can help you. Do you feel you can contact me by phone or email? If you can, my email address is eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk and my phone number is 01563 826222.

Please take care,

Best wishes,

Eunice
