"Rude and Abrupt A&E Nurses"

About: Royal United Hospital / Accident and emergency

Took my 12yo son to A&E but was made to feel like a total inconvenience by the nurses. Not a single one followed the 'my name is........' initiative and so have no idea who was treating us. Constantly demanding explanations why we were there - abdo pain but not a single one looked under my sons tshirt. Took temp and blood pressure and told me I should have gone to GP - all that without actually examining the source of the pain?? My son and I are both hard of hearing - neither nurse took this into account whilst communicating with us - looking down or walking around us whilst talking - we lipread........ We also witnessed the same nurses being short tempered and aggressive towards other patients in the waiting area who were in tears due to pain....... I did wonder whether to go to Salisbury or RUH - I know where I will be going next time - not RUH.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback.

I am very sorry to read that you were unhappy with attitude and behaviour of the nurses in the Emergency Department.

Our goal is always to provide the best care to our patients.

It would be difficult for me to comment on your experience without further specific information from you, but we would be happy to look into this.

If you would like us to do so, can I ask you to please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service via email at

ruh-tr.PatientAdviceandLiaisonService@nhs.net and a member of the team will support you through the process.
