I was admitted to Northern General Hospital Ward 3 in May and received a complete right knee replacement surgery that day. I was discharged a few days later.
A couple of days after that the district nurse noted that a small amount of yellow discharge was apparent. She informed the practice who arranged for an ambulance to return me to hospital and several hours later I was admitted to Ward 5. I was informed that a wash out of the operation site would be carried out the next day but that was cancelled and it was performed late afternoon the day after. It was a few days later before I learned that there was a bug in my knee. The following night the first IV antibiotic was begun and lasted 2 hours. Thereafter they were given twice a day for 2 weeks.
I was discharged after this with the oral antibiotic Zyvox 600 mgm linzolid for 28 days to be taken twice a day.
