I was admitted on Monday, January 9, 2017 for a lung cancer operation the next day. I woke up in HDU in a very confused state following the procedure, but was well cared for and tended by the nurses who were professional, gentle and had the sense of humour needed to make me smile through the discomfort. I was transferred to the Princess Alex Ward where the gentle cajoling of the nurses and physios convinced me that walking the corridors wasn't a death-defying exercise. Frequent visits to x-ray on the 3rd floor were always handled with gentleness and issues of pain management taken seriously by all staff. The perilous state of the NHS was background news throughout my stay, but I can only commend the lead surgeon in charge of my care who has brought this amazing group of people together. The NHS does work if its resources are put in the correct hands. Thank you.
