About: North Devon District Hospital / Accident and emergency

Having come in on bank holiday Monday with what turned out to be blood clots on my Lungs.

A&E were very busy: so had to wait quite a time which was not much fun, but when it was my turn Dr very thorough, even came back to say goodnight& that I would be going to a ward when one available given a bed then taken to M&U for 24hrs lots of tests & not much sleep then on to Victoria ward & a bit more normality & good nights sleep first for more than a week, more xrays scans & bloods felt scared at times but staff nurses & ward Dr took time to answer my questions. As I could go home next day after seeing heomotology was asked if I minded going to the day centre where they did in & out ops, that was fine as they were obviously busy. Spent last 24hours with 3 others in a glorified cupboard they were lovely ladies (who had been there for 36 hrs, as were the 2 nurses who looked after us for the night but so depressing there, wonder why when there are wards that have been closed they cannot be opened when you are obviously soo busy.

Xmas & new year and all the bank holidays it produces are just not fair on all you hospital staff.

I realise that if my husband had not insisted on taking me to NDDH instead of waiting 2 days & going for my GP appointment (made the week before ) the outcome could have been very different,

I cannot thank all the very hard working efficient staff I came into contact with from NDDH .

we in the north of Devon must keep our Hospital

Dear Patient

Thank you for taking the time to post your positive feedback on the website.

I was sorry to learn the hospital and wards were so busy when you attended, as the hospital, like others in the peninsular, was in escalation and full to capacity. As you experienced in this type of situation patients who are the most well are transferred to a temporary ward, and whilst this is not something that happens often, we do try to maintain our normal nursing standards, and I am pleased to note you found staff efficient throughout your inpatient stay, and remained cheerful under such circumstances. I have shared your very kind comments with the Clinical Nurse Matron where I know they will be warmly received.

I do hope you have now fully recovered, and thank you once again.

Best wishes
