"Made 3rd hospital stay for very nervous patient..."

About: Edgbaston Hospital

I visited the Edgbaston for an ENT consultation after a nasty fall left me with a broken nose that had healed badly. Having visited before I asked my GP to refer me to Edgbaston through choose and book as I have been a patient before (twice in fact) and felt that if my problem was going to result in surgery, Edgbaston was the only place I'd want to go. My visit to the Consultant happened within two weeks of my referral, they were completely charming and went through everything in detail with me, and took time to answer my questions, when I was obviously very nervous of the possibility of having a big procedure. I was booked in for surgery after I'd had some time to think through my options, and was taken in for pre-assessment the next week. The Nurse was fabulous with me, and when I got distressed upon finding out I would have to have bloods done (I'm completely needle phobic) they arranged for me to have some numbing cream before having them taken. The Phlebotomist was patient and understanding and managed to get my bloods done with minimal discomfort. I came in for my procedure and as I was on the end of the list, had a bit of a wait to go down to Theatre. The Nurses, Catering and Housekeeping staff all popped in to see me whilst I waited, which was a really nice touch. Post-op I was very battered, and am I'm not good with anaesthetics, I was very nauseous too. The night staff were very sympathetic and really helped when I was feeling quite helpless not being able to hold my head up and eat or drink independently. They even found me some peppermint tea to help settle my stomach. The next day I had to have some of my needles out and the bolsters off my face. I was really frightened as I knew it wouldn't be pleasant, but a lovely HCA held my hand throughout the whole process. The catering team managed to find me lovely soft food to eat (not easy when you have food intolerances) and even bought my family pots of tea whilst they visited. This is the service I would expect when paying for my healthcare - but I paid for none of it. I went in as an NHS patient and was treated like royalty. Nothing was too much trouble and I was treated with the utmost respect at a time when I felt totally venerable. I now recommend the Edgbaston to my friends and family - and two friends have already come here for NHS treatment and echoed my feelings entirely.

Many thanks for your in-depth and complimentary feedback, it is always pleasing to know that we have met our patient expectations and given them a positive experience. At BMI the Edgbaston Hospital we all appreciate how daunting it can be for our patients undergoing surgery and will always do everything we can to reassure and support you. Thank you also for recommending your friends for treatment, and letting us know that they too had a positive patient journey.
