What I liked

I booked a home birth with the Newham Home Birth Team and had a wonderful experience. The Newham home birth midwives are fantastic and both my husband and i were treated with the upmost respect and dignity. Both midwives were extremely supportive and professional. I couldn’t have wished for a better experience. However i had to transfer in to Newham general in the final stages of my labour and unfortunately had a completely different experience.

What could be improved

Attitudes towards women and there partners need to improve. I felt my husband and i were treated with very little respect and decisions were made about my care without our input. Our choices were not respected.

On the postnatal ward i found it to be very dirty and observed blood on the floor that was not cleaned for some time. I also had to request that my bedding be changed as it was not changed for 2 days which may not sound that bad but when you have just had a baby you tend to leak a few bodily fluids!

I was also given no breastfeeding support or advice.
