"The Woodlands Hospital, Little Hulton, Manchester"

About: Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust

(as a relative),

Unfortunately my Father has several for several years with Alzheimer's Disease and is now at the end stage of the disease. My Mother had him at home, with very poor help or advice from the community teams and GP. His GP has never discussed the disease with my Mother and the community nurse popped in every few months, having been present on these visits it felt like she dropped in for a cup of tea, and when I asked about how the disease would deteriorate in the future I was told that its a horrible disease and you don't want to know - NONE of this was helpful in anyway to us as a family.

THEN in 2009 - My Father who had deteriorated considerably, was admitted to The Woodlands Hospital at Little Hulton what a difference this has made not only to my Father but the the family. The professional care my Father receives from the dedicated staff is second to none. The Woodlands Hospital is the best hospital I have ever witnessed.

The staff on Kenyon Ward at the Hospital where my Father is still a patient, have sat with the family explained what would could expect to happen, how to handle situations which may arise and put our minds at much ease as well as the professional, dedicated and caring way they give to all patients on their ward, this wonderful team are exemplary to not only their Trust (Greater Manchester West) but to the NHS itself.

Nothing is too much trouble for the staff on Kenyon Ward, they will explain anything we ask as well as caring for the patients and keeping them immaculately clean as the ward itself.

Alzheimer's is a terrible disease not only for the patient but also their family and I can honestly say that since my Father has been admitted to The Woodlands my family have not only seen my Father cared for in a excellent manner but we as a family NEVER leave the hospital with the additional worry of will he be OK, we are confident he is in the hands of a dedicated, professional and caring team.

Thank you to all staff on Kenyon ward - all of you from cleaners, admin, nursing assistant, nurses, doctors etc are wonderful.

Dear Sue,

Many thanks for your kind comments. The staff at Woodlands Hospital were so thrilled that their help and care has made such a difference.

After our Director of Nursing and Operations received your letter (April 2010) praising the service, we replied and put an article in the May 2010 issue of our staff newsletter, which I know you were really pleased about.

However, we also wanted to respond publically on Patient Opinion to say how delighted we were to receive your positive feedback.

Best wishes,
