I was admitted for a TKR on 01/12/2016 for a right knee TKR. I arrived at 7.30 and unfortunately I was last on the list and didn't get operation until 3.15 but Ward Staff 3 were attentive and caring. They outlined process and went through pre op information.
The surgeon and their team undertook the operation under general Anaesthetic. I was seen by the surgeon and Anaesthetist beforehand which was also very helpful. Following the Op the surgeon spoke to me briefly to reassure me everything went well and I was taken to ward 1 were from the outset staff were fantastic. Caring, attentive, checking upon me and pain management plan clearly outlined. I was seen by Physios following morning and went through range of exercises and therapy for my recovery. I spent first night in single room and transferred to small ward of 4 for remaining 2 nights (3 in total) I cant praise all the staff enough -during the day and nights - this was when my pain was at its height and I was awake most of the night but the nurse and their colleagues were brilliant. The ward is spotless, food was pretty good to be fair and plenty of choice. Discharge was smooth - given meds and range information. Ultimately the strength of my experience was the attitude of staff. I'm sorry I cant name everyone but everybody Consultant, Operating staff and Ward Nurses Physios, X Ray etc were fantastic. They work so hard and deserve great credit for their endurance and patience. Thankfully Ive not had to use the NHS on this level too often but my word we need to treasure our NHS. Once again thanks to everyone involved in my care. If its possible please pass this on to those involved. Tony Wardale
