"Hospital 'mess up'"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

Today should have been my operation day, but due to a clerical error this did not happen. I am not aware that I was worried unduly about things, but had of course psyched myself up in readiness for the op. I didn't sleep that well the previous night, but think that would be normal in most cases when surgery is involved. Had the operation been cancelled prior to getting to the hospital I don't think I would be quite so put out but I went through all the preliminary tests. Saw the consultant who went through all the pros and cons. She was actually extremely nice and thorough. I saw the anaesthetist and was actually told I would be going down to theatre in approximately half an hour but then told there was no bed due to the error. Had anybody been with me at that time I think I would have burst into tears! Thank heavens they were not. I don't think there is a lot more to be said.

Update posted by confounded (the patient)

As I'm retired I leave UK shores for the worst of the winter months so therefore I have to wait until mid March when I return as there would not be enough recovery time before I leave for the operation any later than the date I was originally given.
