"It's much better here"

About: St Andrew's Healthcare

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I have been on Rufford for a few weeks. So far its been alright. It wasn't good where I was before, it is so much better here.

I feel confused as to why I get put into seclusion for a longer time than other patients who only get a few hours.

I asked the team the reason and they said they are not allowed to tell me about other patients and that it depends on each individual situation and the risk. They say this is discussed with the MDT. I think staff do generally understand me here. There is a nice games room and I play pool. The food here is good quality and is nice. Its good quality compared to what I got in the NHS. Its good most of the time.

I'm really glad to hear that you like Rufford and your having a more positive experience. I personally can not answer why you feel you are in seclusion longer that other patients but I would expect you to be heavily involved in your own care plans with your team.

I suggest if you can you go back to your team and you ask them why you are in seclusion for the period you are and how they decide when you come out of seclusion - it may be that you can explain to your team what signs you show to be ready to come out of seclusion and work together on a seclusion exit plan.

I am glad you feel the team understand you and you like the environment, and I am really happy you are having a positive time, this will enhance your rehabilitation and discharge planning.
