"Excellent treatment in Emergency Department"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Emergency Department

Yesterday evening I fell while out walking and dislocated my shoulder. My wife took me straight to the Emergency Department at Treliske, where I was at first apprehensive, after reading the stories that appear in the national papers, about how long I'd have to wait and the quality of treatment I'd receive. In fact I was booked in within 10 minutes of arrival and was soon called in by the triage nurse, who quickly recognised my problem, arranged an X-ray and gave me a strong pain-killer. After the X-ray I didn't have to wait long before the casualty officer skillfully put my shoulder back in joint, giving me gas and air to counter the pain. After another X-ray to check that all was well, I was sent back home less than two hours after coming in.

The 3 professionals who dealt with me - triage nurse, radiographer and casualty officer -.were all skillful, courteous and cheerful, despite having been on duty for a long shift. I considered myself very lucky to have had a painful condition so quickly put right, and I really couldn't fault the service. Today, in a final item of efficiency, I received a phone call from the nurse in the fracture clinic to make arrangements for follow-up.
