"It was just amazing to get off the ward and be with people who I felt understood me"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health (inpatient)

(as the patient),

I was asked by David Student Nurse of Redwood 2 if I wanted to go to a pizza party in the conference room at 6. 00 pm. David took me and I arrived.

Jacob was serving drinks and making cocktails of bucks fizz with John. These were lovely I watched them cut up the limes and orange. David helped me and another patient to make the pizza and I now feel I could make my own.

We all sat down and music was played from youtube on the computer from a large screen. Everybody was asked what they would like to listen to. When I arrived house music was being played. When it was my turn I asked for suspicious minds by elvis to be played.

A quiz was started and I went out to call my mum as I was very hot from dancing around to elvis. I came back after my phone call and mission impossible was playing as they were doing a music quiz. Then take that was playing rule the world and I danced for ages expressing myself.

Then some more music was played Siousie and the Banshees Happy House. U2 was played New years day. I just closed my eyes and could see my boyfriend in my mind. With or without you was the last song that they played and that was the end of the evening. I had a brilliant evening and would like to thank all the team for organising it.

It was just amazing to get off the ward and be with people who I felt understood me and had been through it too. I have always felt closer to the staff this time on my ward than the patients and feel I would like to do something voluntary to help other patients in the future. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback on your evening with other patients and Jacob and John from the Live team. It sounded from your account that it was an enjoyable evening with the music and food and that the non alcoholic Bucks fizz went down well. You also describe how it made you feel understood and to express yourself as well as helping you to reflect, all of which are very positive to hear from you.

Our team aims to repeat these events as often as possible and will be coming round the wards to gather ideas for future events from patients and staff.

Please contact the team at any time for more information on the number below.
