Birmingham Women's is a good hospital. I had a good previous experience despite the circumstances so opted to come here for the birth pf my baby. Prenatal care was good other than appointments for consultant led where long and took all day. I was left labouring in tirage waiting room for over 1hr. By the time i was taken through to be examimed i was 7cm. Baby was born 2hrs later. She had a good score. I asked of she had tongue tie as i knew this could potentially cause problems with feeding. I really wanted to breastfeed. Anyway they said she had very mild tongue tie. She couldnt breastfeed at all. I persevered for nearly 2 days. My baby hadnt fed for over 24hrs following birth. This didnt concern anyone. I was told to hand express with no luck so i had to result on bottle feeding. A referral was done to another hospital for tongue tie. After a 6 week wait, i called the hospital, no referral rereceived. In the end i asked my HV to refer me for a tongue tie assessment to an alternative trust. Appt was received within 2 weeks. My daughter had severe tongue tie and they was surprised she fed and gained weight as much as she did. It is such a shame you don't deal with tongue tie as my daughter could have breastfed instead of waiting until she was 9weeks and 5 days to have this done. My birth was fone, unassisted and easy. The after birth care, well... also good luck if you are staying in. I was there in August and the ward was like a sauna and only 1 shower working for the whole ward!! Such an experienced hospital but lack of simple services needed!
