"Gynaecologist department"

About: Royal Lancaster Infirmary / Gynaecology

My daughter unfortunately had a miscarriage but need the baby removing as it had not come away. She went for the scan to see if all was well and it showed no heart beat , we were sent back up to the ward into a room with other women with scan photos all cooing over their babies. My daughter found this distressing and I asked if we could be moved, when the nurse realised what had happened they very swiftly moved us to a quiet room and explained what would happen next, they were very caring and understanding. My daughter was admitted to hospital 11 days later for a D &C . The staff on the ward the surgeon and the anithatis were all very good .

She went down to theatre for s 10 minute procedure and didn't come back for over an hour. There had been some emergency and so my daughter had to wait but was already under so was kept under until they could do her procedure.

In the end the surgeon brought my daughter back to the ward themself with a nurse that was arguing with the surgeon in the lift . Back on the ward and still very groggy my daughter was told that they would have to put her in her bed on the corridor as they could not fit the trolley in the room , the nurse said they would lift her over but the nurse said no she could shuffle her self she is awake in a very off hand tone. My daughter was left in a room with me for an hour with no one checking her

She was told she could have something to eat and if she had been to the toilet she could go home. She was discharged at 1.00 the nurses explained if she felt unwell she could ring the ward anytime. We went to see a friend in the hospital and at about 1.10 my daughter became very unwell, the nurse on the ward were on took her blood pressure and it was 60/33 she rang ward 16 and told them what was happening and they said she had been discharged and was not their responsibility and to take her to the GP, neither the nurse or myself could believe this. I decided to take my daughter to A&E in s wheel chair as she was unable to walk and kept passing out. A&E were fantastic and got her sorted they then sent her back to ward 16 for observation, we were put behind a curtain and left for four hours and she wax only checked twice and then it was only her blood pressure and a few questions. The after care on ward 16 leaves slot to be desired to say the least.

Thank you for letting us know about your recent experience at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. We are very sorry that you felt the level of care your daughter received fell below the high standard we would expect - especially at such a distressing and worrying time. We would like to speak to you and your daughter directly so we can understand more about what happened and what we can do to make sure it doesn't happen again in the future. To help us do this, we would appreciate it if you could contact our Patient Relations team on 01539 716621. Thanks again and we hope to hear from you soon.
