"As a hospital, it has little to ..."

About: Royal United Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

As a hospital, it has little to recommend it as a first choice for patient healthcare.

What could be improved

I was last seen at this hospital in December 2009 as a urology outpatient.

It is now May 2010 and my follow up appointment still has not arrived.

I spoke to the complaints dept last month who assured me they would deal with it, and I never heard anything more from them - or from anyone else, and still no appointment, and trying to telephone direct (or any other department) is a nightmare because a plethora of telephone answering machines are always in operation.

I don't blame the staff. When you can actually get to speak to the nurses they are extremely good, and helpful, & obviously very busy, but the underlying management problem of this hospital is totally unacceptable from the patients perspective

It has too few staff, and too few departments for the influx of patients.

Today I was informed that I may now have to wait until July to be seen unless they can overbook somewhere.

Eight months between appts?

Not a happy bunny!

Anything else?

A very fine new hospital frontage & entrance hall has recently been built....Car parking charges apply.

There is however a small access car park for disabled drivers as one drives in on the left.

We are sorry that this patient has experienced these delays and we always urge anyone with a concern or complaint to contact our Complaints department again so we are can address their specific needs and concerns. The department will also see a copy of this posting.

In order to better understand where the delays or issues may hace occured, we would ask that this patient contacts our Complaints Department directly so we can look into what may be at fault. Once again our apologies for your dissatisfaction.

As a Trust we are fully staffed and there are no shortages in the workforce although we are a busy acute hospital.

The hospital frontage or Atrium was completed approximately 12 years ago. We have 72 designated disabled car parking spaces and we do not charge for parking for Blue Badge holders.
