"Care of mothers could be more compassionate"

About: University College Hospital

(as the patient),

I had antenatal care with the fetal medicine unit. The doctors were clinically excellent, however there were students in the ultrasound room who never bothered to introduce themselves or make any attempts to be friendly. The planning of care was outstanding, but my daughter was transferred straight to Great Ormond Street Hospital at birth and I was expected to sleep on the postnatal ward alongside mothers with their newborns. This was highly distressing, but when I expressed my dissatisfaction with the situation I was told that I must be mentally unstable. Despite this, I am very pleased I had my baby at ULCH as my daughter got the best possible care. However, I would suggest that the care of mothers experiencing high risk pregnancies could be much more compassionate.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We're so pleased you were happy with the care and attention you received from the Fetal Medicine Unit and we will feed this back to the team.
