"End of Life Care"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital (Paisley)

(as a relative),

I would just like to express my gratitude to all of the saff in the palliative care ward in Paisley - Royal Alexandra hospital who looked after my father at the end of his cancer journey.

He was admited on hogmany right on the bells and sadly passed away on January 2013.

At this time I was heavily pregnant and the nursing staff also checked in to see how I was doing and offered us comfy chairs to stay in. They also popped their heads in and always asked if we wanted tea/toast - these gestures did not go noticed.

As a nurse myself I knew when the end was coming, I popped my head out of his room and said to the nursing staff that he was slipping away, the senior charge nurse was actually in the middle of making up controlled medication but she left this to come in to his room to support us and to support my Dad in his moments.

I cannot express my gratitude to how well my Dad and us as a amily unit were treated during this difficult time. I am aware that the RAH sometimes gets a bad name for itself (myself having negative experiences) however their palliative care ward was amazing, caring and compassionate. Nothing was an issue for any of the staff.

I cannot express my thanks to the staff enough during this difficult time - PS I ended up having a healthy boy 3 weeks after my Dads passing, he is now a lively cheeky 3 year old.

Hello there

Thanks so much for taking the time to share such good feedback with our service in ward 19. The team there work so hard to make sure that patients and families needs are met at the end of their life and to minimise the distress as much as possible. They will be pleased to hear that it worked well for you and the family.

I hope the passing of time has eased the loss for you and pleased a lovely boy to help with the pain of that.

Thanks again for taking the time. It means a lot

regards

Jacki
