"Incredibly grateful."

About: Luton & Dunstable Hospital / Accident and emergency

Due to an ongoing condition I had to visit the hospital twice within 24 hours. The first time I was referred by my GP due to a head injury and the second I was brought in by ambulance due to being found unconscious in the street. On the first occasion 6th oct around 3pm, from the triage Nurse, the porter to the wonderful doctor.

They were great, they all (the doctor especially), took the time to ask about my condition and empathised with how frustrating it was and how vulnerable it is making me feel. Unfortunately my condition isn't well controlled at the moment meaning I have had to attend a&he frequently over the last few months. Every time I have been treated well, quickly and compassionately , and never made to feel like a nusaince however busy the unit was. On the 2nd occasion 7th October I was brought in by ambulance around 10:30 am when found unconscious. The ambulance staff , the nurses and doctor once again were all so compassionate and took the time to ensure I was reffered to Ambulatory care to try and help get my condition under control. My condition means I loose consciousness without warning so have been very suseptable to injury, it leaves me feeling so vulnerable. Each doctor took the time to asses me throughly and ensure I was ok to leave. It's a very frustrating condition as I am not ill, so despite being in a lot of pain from injuries sustained I always feel like a huge burden to somewhere like A &E, but silly things mean my condition worsens and then I have periods where I never have to attend hospital for a year, then I have three trips in a week. Each time I was listened too, with this condition that's one of the hardest things, when Doctors do not listen to what's normal for you, what isn't and what you have already to help yourself, especially as POTS is a little known condition. We moved to the area a year ago, and I had a really great cardiologist who was hard to replace, but sometime when things went wrong the a & e care lacked compassion and common sense for my condition this is the opposite to the experience I have had here. I had previously suffered in pain and from worrying concussion symptoms and was unable to bring myself to attend my old a & e knowing that I would end up being hospitalised for days as they had an antiquated protocol, when what I needed was treating and to be able home in an environment I feel safe and with my children and husband, as this condition has an impact on my family as a whole. I cannot express enough thanks, it make a huge difference knowing that when I do have to rely on others the care will be this exceptional.
