"staff were fantastic"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Aberdeen Maternity Hospital at 37 weeks with high blood pressure. I spent just over a week in Westburn and Summerfield wards while I was induced and then after giving birth.

All the wards were extremely busy but all the staff were fantastic. There were long waits for test results and for comments from the doctors but the midwives did everything they could. There wasn't much space in the labour ward or chairs for birth partners. However, all of them went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and keep us informed. I want to give a special thanks to the student midwives that have recently started at AMH as they were are brilliant, especially Megan who took care of me in my last couple of days in the ward! : ) the support for breastfeeding was also amazing!

Response from Linda Oldroyd, Nurse Consultant Patient Safety and Experience, NHS Grampian

Congratulations on the birth of your baby!

NHS Grampian would like to thank you for taking time out of your, no doubt, hectic schedule to post your feedback on Patient Opinion.

It is fabulous to hear that despite the busyness of Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, staff were still able to give you the care and the time you needed.

Long waits for results and information are very frustrating; most people just want to get home as soon as possible! You sound very understanding of the situation.

We know that space is an issue and as you might know we are building a new hospital, called the Baird Family Hospital. We hope this new build will meet the needs of Grampian’s new mums and families well into the future.

The staff and the students in particular will be thrilled to be given a special mention in your post. Megan especially will be delighted to be recognised as a star among stars.

Thank you again and all our best wishes to you and your family.
