"Digestive diseases Level 9A"

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

I stayed on this ward after having an emergency operation, for 3 days, I was treated exceptionally well by the nurses, I felt cared for, and my needs were met day and night by them. Information about my condition was given freely which was very important to me. A couple of out of hours visits were cheerfully accepted. Food was acceptable, with a fairly wide choice for each meal, the catering staff were very helpful and accommodating. A couple of downsides were the porters talking at the top of their voices about a holiday in Thailand at 3am, and during the doctors rounds I had about eight people around my bed, and I felt like I was a piece of meat, my privacy was not respected by the doctor and whatever I said was completely ignored. It reminded me of a Carry On film! My surgeon came to visit every day to check my progress, they were friendly and answered all my questions, explaining exactly what happened and how the operation went. There is a free bedside telephone (to landlines) which was very useful, with a tv should you need it. My discharge was a little chaotic due to my nurse being called away to another part of the ward for an emergency, but overall I thought everything else was dealt with efficiently and well.

Thank you very much for your kind comments expressing your gratitude.

I have passed on your message to the Gastrointestinal Team, it really is encouraging for our staff when they receive thanks from patients and relatives for the care they have provided, and it is always very much appreciated.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us.

Best wishes

Hannah Pacifico
