"EP Clinic"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I recently attended the early pregnancy clinic at Raigmore Hospital. As is unfortunately so often the case I received some distressing news.

Whilst the staff treated me with dignity after getting the news I had to immediately leave the room and exit into the area where happily pregnant ladies were passing through.

I find it shocking in this modern age that there is no designated room close to the consulting room for ladies to sit after they have received such news in order to compose themselves. It felt extremely undignified having to leave in a distressed state.

Dear Belbel

I am really sorry hear of your recent distressing news made all the tougher by your very poor experience of care. This is not a part of the hospital I am familiar with. I will speak with colleagues and try and understand why we are organised in this way and what the opportunities for making some adjustments are. I will get back to you once I know more. Thank for you getting in touch.

Hello again

I have now had a chance to discuss your feed-back with Caron Cruickshank the divisional midwifery manager for the area. She would like to offer a sincere apology and if you would like to contact her direct she would of course be pleased to speak with you caron.cruickshank@nhs.net or 01463 705373

She has also assured me that steps are being taken to resolve your situation happening again by two developments.

While they are restricted for space they have now identified an area that with some small changes, can be used to separate early pregnancy women from those in at a more advance stage of pregnancy.

The second thing they are doing is reviewing how clinics are run and are are looking at scheduling, appointment setting and overall environment. While this is a larger piece of work and will take a wee while to come to fruition it will ensure there is an overall better consultation experience.

Thank you again for getting in touch.
