"Orthopaedic surgery"

About: Colchester General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

Absolutely disgusted by the lackadaisical attitude of this department to patients. My 15 year old son was seen in March, and told he needed a scan to rebuild his cruciate ligament. We then heard nothing for a month, and on phoning them was told it was because he'd been discharged, which is frankly shocking. Scan was then done a further month later. Again, nothing. Finally saw consultant in July to have operation confirmed and described to him. And again, nothing heard since except to give him a session of ''pre-op'' physio, and they thought it was post op, and made him a second appointment afterwards - for 3 weeks time! And I phone today to find the secretary for the consultant is on leave until 21 Sept, and there's nothing anyone can do until they're back anyway. This is an absolute farce, and an horrendous way to treat a young lad. I'm furious, he's 15, it's 6 months and no op yet? Not even a date? Final year at school which is crucial and he's now likely to miss a chunk of school when he could easily have had this op already.

Missing all his sports which he excels at and loves, this is completely unacceptable, it's no drama to say it's ruining his life. Have no fear I will be putting through an official complaint, and this is nothing against the doctors and nurses at the hospital, just the faceless administrators, secretaries, and/or consultants who think it's acceptable to play games with people's lives. I thought there were standards which had to be applied here, obviously I was wrong.
