I had worsening symptoms that began at the end of last week while staying at friends in Suffolk. I had a very sore, red, itchy rash spreading across my body. By the weekend my jaw and lips were swollen so my husband took me to the ED. I was triaged quickly and then had a cannula fitted and bloods taken. Shortly after I was seen by the Doctor who diagnosed anaphalactic shock. He said I needed iv medication and steroids to take home (for which I'd have to come back to pick up).
I then had a long wait for the treatment. My husband spoke to reception after an hour and said the numbness and swelling on my lips and face, was spreading. I think the toilets needed cleaning. I received my treatment roughly two hours after diagnosis and it was administered in a room with other patients and their chaperones in. (One couple of men being very loud and foul mouthed, which I found very offensive, particularly as I felt unwell. ) So I wish there had been more privacy. Both my husband and I were on the verge of telling the loud people to shut up when I was called to a private room for the removal of my cannula. ) That's my only complaint.
The Doctor came through to see me three times during the treatment and on the last time he'd been and picked up the medication OK now for me so that we didn't have to go back later.
Overall it was a very positive experience and yet again, I appreciate the efforts of all the members of staff. I hope this is published so everyone can see how wonderful you all are. Yes it took a long time overall (about five hours) but the staff and my treatment were brilliant.
