My gran was given an assessment by OT to decide if she came under the criteria for a wallk in shower. She is approaching 90 and has been unable to get in or out the bath for over a year. Unfortunately she was turned down. She was asked to consider other aids like elevated seat. These my gran felt would be unsuitable for her.
OT services were then withdrawn. There is apparently no money available. We recently became aware that her next door neighbour is currently having a new walk in shower installed. This client is in his sixties with some mobility needs. He is able to get about independently, drive, gardening, etc. My gran uses a walking stick outside and in but is unable to leave the house unless family accompanies her. She can get up and downstairs but cannot lift her leg to the height of a standard bath and a step up just increases the risk of falling over
I am extremely disappointed in OT services and cannot understand how this decision was reached when others apparently more able are approved.
