I had a large tumour diagnosed on my 'remaining' kidney following renal failure, having had the other removed in 1997 for the same reason. I was obviously very concerned that I would be in the prime position for permanent dialysis. After much discussion with various departments I was, fortunately, referred to Dr Wah at St James's hospital Leeds. Dr Wah, kindly, offered her services for a tumour ablation treatment. She went through all the possible worst case scenarios, but then said "I haven't lost a kidney yet! " The tumour I had was bigger than she would usually treat.
The treatment was carried out in February 2016. The procedure was far less invasive than the usual surgery and recovery was incredibly quick. Minor discomfort and headache, nothing of significance afterwards. I was back to my hobby of distance walking, quite quickly.
