Yesterday Aug. 6th was my operation. They told me to arrive at 8AM and not eat anything from midnight the night before. At 9 AM I met with the Dr. performing the general anesthesia. They were very kind. Then met with the Surgen who also was kind and straight to the point, very confident. We sat in a room anxious as could be and was not taken in till 2:30 for the op. They walked me to the theatre and I met with the surgical nurse who was very kind. Shortly both doctors walked in. They started my meds quickly and I don't remember anything after that. Woke in recovery with another nurse by my side. Saying everything went well. After 40 mins waiting for a porter to take me back to the room they got another nurse and they took me back themselves. The surgial team and recovery were lovely . Nurses and staff in the Alex Ward was very disappointing. Very unorganized, didn't communicate with each other. Another was quite rude and tried to speak over my main nurse. The nurse was incorrect on a few things as well. I am debating in making a formal complaint on them. When it came time for discharge the Dr. on call (not my surgeon) didn't bother to read my whole case as they tried to send me home with medication I am allergic to so my nurse had to sort that out. I was hardly given any instruction in how to care for my dressings, I had to call today and ask. Nothing was written about them in my discharge notes. In the end I would recommend the surgical team they did a lovely job I am hardly in any pain. As for the nursing staff, that needs some work.
