"Absolutely fantastic, caring,professional and..."

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

My son recently broke his broke his elbow at the park (6yrs) we rushed him to a and e in the car not sure if it was just sore or serious. There was a que of a few ppl to be admitted. (heavy wait) but they were being very thorough on getting all the info the could. After all the info they gave me some paperwork and sent me straight to children's assessment bit. Soon as we got there he was taken straight into a side room where they had a good look and friendly caring chat with him. Got him some morphine while waiting for the doctor. Busy with other kids they checked in with us at least every five mins to let us know we weren't forgotten and make sure he was ok I thought that was lovely because from past experiences doesn't always happen. The doc was no longer then half an hour. Seem really nice and made a good try at talking to my son more then me and letting him know he was safe etc. struggled a little to understand accent but had no objection to repeating things slower/ clearer. The nurses then applied a plaster cast carefully and praising my son the whole time they really were lovely. My son then had an X-ray, again the member of staff consistently engaging him and answered his hundreds of questions without any trace of annoyance, giving sticker and praise at the end and back to room instead of rushing of still chatting away to him showing him what equipment in room was ( just going the extra effort) the doctor was very thorough and wanted another X-ray and even attended this one to get exactly how wanted. No shortcuts taken. We were then told he will need surgery but probably tomorrow if swelling holds of so we wee then admitted to berry(children's) ward. An hour later he was ready for surgery. The staff that took him down was great, telling him he had a magic blanket of protection to keep him safe and chatting about Pokemon with him. The aneasesist doctor and staff again absolutely lovely, bubbly people making ty feel completely at ease. Back on the ward the staff were very supportive. Two of the nurses in particular. When ty came around we went back to the ward. A bed next to his had been put out for me. he was given a drink for when he was ready straight away. Then obvs done and checked on Every half hour. The night staff did not stop running around from all the different poorly children, giving all four on our ward individual care and attention. And probably many more. They worked so hard but always kind and pleasant .in the morning the toy room was open, it's fantastic, ty walked in and went "whoaaaa" it made an amazing gesture because after all he had been threw it just made him forget for a while. The member of staff in there was lovely too very chatty and bringing out dinosaurs for one little boy who talked about them and a whole table of avengers for Ty after talking to him about them. We are going on holiday and they even did their best to work his after care appointments around it. Overall they are amazing. Wonderful. Needed

Thank you for your wonderful comments about the treatment your son received at Blackpool Victoria Hospital recently. All our staff strive to do the best they can to make the treatment run smoothly and quickly for the patients they treat, especially in urgent cases such as your sons.

I am so pleased that all the staff he encountered made him feel reassured, well looked after and involved in his care. I will personally ensure that your kind feedback is passed onto them all and I am sure they will be delighted to hear that you both had such a positive experience overall and that you were put at ease by their patience and warm and welcoming behavior at what was understandably a worrying time for yourself and for Ty. We really appreciate you getting in touch and hope that he is making a good recovery now.

All the very best for the future.

Andrew Heath
