What I liked
Can't say anything about this place impressed me favourably.
What could be improved
The site is in an area of 'permit holders only' street parking. Internal car parking facilities exist - but it took 50 minutes in a queue to get to them! Unacceptable. Fortunately I'd been forewarned about the parking situation and deliberately arrived early.
The signage is beyond poor, it's misleading. Examples: The car park internal signs are virtually unreadable (where they exist). Internal department signs are sparse and misleading. Signs have been placed behind pillars, or visible from only one location.
Having been called over from Hastings (for no good reason - as ALL tests and consultation required had been carried out elsewhere previously) without a letter or directions, I was forced to turn detective to find where I needed to be. I was constantly misdirected. Several (not all) of the staff were unhelpful (though I was told it was MY fault I hadn't been sent a letter - with barely 24 hours notice!).
It seemed many staff were preoccupied with sitting in groups chatting over tea.
Strange that, I thought reception area staff were meant to be informative and helpful. Apparently that isn't the case here.
I finally found the required department after being misdirected to the wrong place three times a couple of minutes before my appointment, where I waited nearly an hour to be seen.
This involved spending over an hour wandering about.
The only bright spot was the Doctor, who was apologetic, helpful and informative.
IF it didn't involve coming here for treatment, I'd be more than happy to have this Dr handling my case.
Having finally escaped, I decided to investigate the restaurant, having left Hastings at 8:30 I'd had nothing but a cup of coffee before leaving. Another mistake. The restaurant featured 'psychic signage' was difficult to find even the entrance to and on entering turned out to have no trays (!) and offer a selection of rather unhealthy dishes...
I left and tried my luck in Churchill Square.
Anything else?
The contrast between this hospital and my local one (the Conquest) could hardly be greater.
Thank heavens I don't actually need to attend the Royal Sussex Hospital.
