"Thank you so much for being so kind to my family"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Accident & Emergency Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a parent/guardian),

My family flew from the United States to Edinburgh, Scotland and within a couple of hours of landing my son had a seizure. We called 999 and an ambulance brought us to the Emergency Dept. at Royal Infirmary. The paramedics were sharp, funny and diligent, so impressed with their response to our situation.

The medical personnel we encountered from the moment we reached the hospital to the minute we left was extraordinary! I wish I could remember names because every Nurse & Doctor treated us with such care and respect, never experienced that before in any hospital, emergency or otherwise. We received copies of the doctors notes from the incredibly nice legal services dept. (Darren) and I recognize Drs. Oglesby (incredibly sharp lady) and M Amos (really wishing he was our family doctor, best bedside manners I've ever experienced. ) I don't recall the name of our checkout & release Doctor but he was English and awesome!

Seriously daydreaming about how to invite them all to Wyoming for a visit! Dr. Fraser was very nice to visit with on the phone. She was very concerned and I sincerely appreciated the advice she gave me.

We're back home now and have followed up with an MRI and have an appt. for an EEG next week. I grew up in Scotland and am familiar with NHS. I've spent many years in America. I know the struggles of both institutions well. But what makes the experience either miserable or marvellous is the humanity, the way we treat each other and Edinburgh Royal Infirmary has the best human beings on this planet!

Thank you so much for being so kind to my family. With much love.

Response from Jeannette Morrison, Head of Patient Experience, NHS Lothian

Dear TheHamFam

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback concerning the care that your son received after just arriving on holiday, it must have been a very anxious time for everyone, especially being so far from home.

I was really pleased to hear how the doctors and nurses cared for your son and kept the rest of the family updated. I have passed your kind words onto the team at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and l am sure that if any of them are passing Wyoming they would be delighted to drop by!

Thank you again.

Jeannette

Dear TheHamFam

Thank you for your great feedback and I am sorry to learn that this happened after just arriving on holiday! It is bad enough taking unwell at any time, but when you are so far from home.

I was really happy to hear that that whole system worked well and that all of you were looked after and cared for. I wish you and your family all the best and hope you managed to enjoy the rest of your holiday. I also wish you the very best with your sons ongoing tests and care back home.

Kind regards,

Colin
