Last Thursday, I spent the day in the Queen's Day Case Unit for a minor procedure. I was admitted to the ward at 7.00am and was discharged at 7.00pm. Throughout the day I was treated as a VIP. Everything was clearly explained to me at each stage from the porters to the surgeons, I was given time to ask questions and was encouraged to do so. The care I received was superb. A lot of this time was spent waiting for the various stages to unroll and afforded me time to observe the unit in action. The staff coped with an endless flow of patients, the work load was utterly relentless. To say the staff "coped" is a huge understatement. Each and every new admission received the best of care throughout the day. One of the ward sisters didn't get to have their lunch break until almost 3.00pm, ensuring the rest of the staff was given the first opportunity to take a break, usually quite late considering the unit had been open from 7.00am. I just want to say thank you to each and everyone who made my day in this unit as pleasant as possible. Each and every member of staff in this unit deserves recognition for their commitment and dedication.
