"Brilliant Consultants. offensive desk staff"

About: County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust

This visit was done over several weeks.

Following a traumatic miscarriage, I was referred to ward 9.

I had lost a precious baby , so I was horrified and appalled to see I was expected to be in a waiting area with pregnant women and women bursting out of side rooms full of joy they had had a pregnancy confirmed. As well as the grim posters advertising Abortion.

I see this as being highly amoral and frankly, it is disturbing this is allowed to happen in this day and age.

I had massively long waits to see the consultants. Despite the ward knowing I was arriving.

Upon asking at the desk how long they might be (and I asked twice within several hours) , I was told by one nurse they did not want to tell me, because it would only be a guess and that if they gave me a time, it would be likely that like most patients, I would " hold them to it" and it would be the worse for them!

Another person behind the desk would not even look at me and told me I had been told once that I would need to wait and that should be more than enough!

I felt the atmosphere of the ward was hostile and spiteful towards vulnerable patients, who were only there through sheer necessity and not through self inflicted concerns. No differentiation at all was made.

The ward also appeared shabby and foreboding in some respects.

The nurse I saw for my initial care was kind and helpful.

The two consultants I eventually saw were calm, patient and highly knowledgeable. For which I truely thank them.
