"A&E"

About: King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill)

I had a total hip replacement 3 weeks prior to this visit, both my legs had swollen from toes to knee and I was worried about blood clots. Taken by ambulance to Kings with referal letter from GP, 3 people in front of me when I arrived, 2 and a half hours later I was finally seen and taken for ultra sound..no blood clots fortunately, but...was sent back into reception and ordered to wait my turn behind another 60 odd people waiting to be seen 1st time around, basically gone to the back of the queue. Bearing in mind my feet had swollen so much I was only in socks, cannot sit in a car because of hip op and on crutches, I finally gave up the ghost and told staff I was going home and could they arrange some transport for me. Apparently I didn't fit the criteria for transport, and was told "you'll have to get a cab", in a very rude manner, managed to cram myself into a black cab and went home. Never in all my years have I ever been treated like that in a hospital, from being treated brilliantly in Kings in Orpington where I had my op to this excuse of a department is ridiculous. Maybe A&E should spend a few days in Orpington to learn how to treat people and a bit of bedside manner, as this is my nearest hospital I have to be hopeful that my legs go down otherwise its a trip to Guys which is further..

Thank you for your comments about A&E and I am sorry to hear that your experience was not satisfactory. It would be helpful if we could have a bit more information so that we can look into what happened and ensure that this is investigated.

It would be helpful if you could contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 020 3299 3601 or email PALS at kch-tr.PALS@nhs.net
