"Homophobic reaction by GP"

I went to see my GP to get a prescription for medication recommended by my consultant. I could not see my usual GP so saw another.

The medicine causes birth defects so it is important not to get pregnant when taking it. The doctor asked me in a patronising way whether I was in a relationship at the moment, and was I taking contraception? The doctor could have just said that it caused birth defects.

I eventually had to tell the doctor that I am gay and so don't need contraception and the doctor looked visibly shocked and said "What?!" so I had to explain again, which was unneccesary and embarassing.

I think that this was a homophobic reaction and that the doctor should have to go for some diversity training. I cannot be the only gay patient the doctor has ever seen and medical staff should not react in this way.
