"Suspected TIA"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Acute assessment unit

(as the patient),

I felt ill while out shopping, my left leg in particular felt as if it would give way. My husband decided to take me to A&E at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. After an hours wait I saw the triage nurse called Sharon, she was very empathetic and professional. She apologised for the wait. I then waited 1 1/2 hrs to be admitted to A&E ward. Once there I was seen by a doctor Jennifer and was on my way to getting a CT scan within 30 minutes. Later I was admitted to AAU where I was examined again by both a junior doctor and Dr Doig the consultant. I was later discharged as I felt much better. The nurse doing my discharge letter told me I would get an appointment at the TIA clinic and also get a carotid artery scan. This all happened on a Friday. On the Monday I got a phone call to say I had an appointment at the TIA clinic that afternoon and a scan booked for the next day. I have seen the consultant Dr Copeland at the Clinic. She explained everything to me in language I understood without being patronising.

My whole experience from the receptionist in A&E to the staff at the stroke clinic showed how well the NHS can function. The staff were professional, empathetic and showed that they are of a high caliber
