About: Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust Colchester CO4 5JL
My wife (grade 3 stage 4 cancer) was admitted to A&e on 30th April.
1. Team on EAU very very very good.
They were organised, friendly and listened to my wife's needs.
They should be proud
2. A&e was very good, the junior doctor on call was too inexperienced - heart was willing though
3. The consultant was very good, thoughtful listened and understood my wife's needs.
4. The palliative care specialist is also worthy of praise
Combined they worked well and resolved my wife's issues
This is not an NHS specific issue it affects private hospitals too however teams do not work well together.
They do not communicate well for instance my wife was admitted on referral from a hospice doctor to A&e for an emergency scan.
Getting this information "into the system" was painful, despite being told the hospice has spoken to the hospital palliative care team it took time for things to be mobilised.
Once they had done that then we were able to have the outcomes we outlined above.
Key message: if a patient tells you information is in a place get hold of it quick!
Thank you to the team - management please sort yourselves out
