I had an operation to correct a bunion and problems with my second toe and to repair damage to the underneath of my foot in August 2015, which involved an operation under general anaesthetic. I was initially concerned about the length of waiting time for the op (11 months after referall) but managed to get a cancellation and had the operation within six months after referral.
On every visit I was treated with great courtesy by all members of staff and was very impressed with the cleanliness of the waiting room and day hospital. On the day of surgery everyone was very kind and went to great lengths to put me at ease. Despite having been warned that this op was going to be very painful, I did not find it too bad… but I did make sure that I kept off it for the first three weeks. My operation was successful and, eight months on, I can now walk without pain for the first time in years – it is so liberating. I would urge anyone with a bunion that is causing them discomfort or pain to get it looked at without delay – I unwittingly did a lot of damage to the underneath of my foot by continuing to walk on it.
