My daughter who has Aspergers and a severe needle phobia was referred to the day surgery unit in Taunton Musgrove hospital for surgery on four of her toe nails which were genetically ingrown and had been causing pain and discomfort for weeks - resulting in constant pain consequently very poor mobility.
When we were admitted to the day surgery unit we were treated extremely well. Each medical practitioner - nurse, doctor, and anaesthetist went out of their way to put my anxious daughter at her ease and explain clearly what was happening and give us a clear time frame. The ward was clean, welcoming and relaxed and nicely decorated. The calm atmosphere helped create the right conditions to aid the whole surgical process and we all felt that our nurse - Sophie was an absolute delight. We never felt rushed or pressured and the whole experience left us feeling properly taken care of.
Having had the opposite experience in a different hospital which left my daughter traumatised - this has gone a long way to repairing some of the emotional damage that took place.
We can't praise the day surgery staff enough for their sensitive care
"Can't praise the staff enough"
