I am currently a patient at Parklands Psychiatric Hospital (Acute Care Unit) in Basingstoke and have to say that on the whole my care has been acceptable but there is a lot of room for improvement.
Not all patients are able to ask for help (as it is not in their nature) and we have been promised for weeks that our "allocated" nurse / support worker for the day would spend at least 5 minutes with us each time they are working to see how we are. This does not happen.
Also, some of the staff are not in any way approachable which makes asking for help all the more difficult. If we are able to ask for a chat we are sometimes told by our "allocated" nurse/support worker that they are busy and would be with us in 5-10 minutes which is fair enough but we can still be waiting weeks later for that chat.
I appreciate that staff are busy but they lock themselves away in the office rather than be on the ward which makes some of us patients feel that the staff wish to put a barrier between them and us and not interact with us.
On a good note some of the staff are wonderful and make us feel as if we deserve support and help which is very important given the vulnerability of patients due to the nature of their illnesses.
